OAP to stand trial on child sex abuse charges
A south Armagh pensioner is to stand trial in Newry crown court on a catalogue of child sex abuse charges relating to offences perpetrated more than 30 years ago.
The 77-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, has been charged with 14 counts of indecent assault and buggery committed against the child during the 1980s.
The court was told the new allegations are to be combined with 25 charges of gross indecency with the same child, which were put to the defendant at an earlier crown court hearing.
The offences relate to dates between August 1983 and April 1988 when the victim was aged under 16.
The accused did not object to a preliminary enquiry into the new charges and made no response to the allegations.
