One arrest, 50k cash and phones seized in police searches
On Monday last, detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Unit conducted nine searches across the Newry and South Armagh area, which they later said was in connection with the recent spate of ATM thefts.
Speaking after the extensive operation, Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “Detectives conducted a number of searches in the South Armagh and Newry areas earlier on Monday, making one arrest and recovering more than £50,000 in cash, mobile phones and documentation. Two lorries and fuel were also seized, along with a related mobile fuel laundering site.
“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences relating to possession and concealing criminal property.”
DI Gawley appealed to the public to report anything suspicious.
“Get in touch on the non-emergency number 101, or if you think a crime is in progress call 999. Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” he added.
