Record breaking farming family sweep the boards at Balmoral Show
A Cullyhanna farming family who have already smashed European and World record sales with the £150k sale of a prize Limousin bull in 2015, are celebrating once again after sweeping the boards on the first day of Ireland’s biggest agricultural event, the Balmoral Show.
The Limousin herd from Henry Savage and Sons scooped almost all of the breed’s top titles on offer last Thursday, claiming the breed’s supreme and reserve supreme championships as well as picking up every championship possible.
Leading a successful few days for the farming family was 20-month-old Trueman Lute, who collected the titles of senior female, overall senior and overall female before eventually being singled out for the highest accolade as Interbreed Champion of Champions, ahead of her pen mate Trueman Mozart, who is the first son of the £147,000 record-priced Trueman Jagger which the Savages sold in October 2015 in Carlisle.
Trueman Mozart also fared well racking up a string of titles including Junior Champion, Overall Male Champion, Reserve Overall Champion and Junior Interbreed Champion
Another Savage animal, Trueman Melody an Ampertaine Abracadabra daughter took the Junior Female Champion and Reserve Female Champion titles while Trueman Madonna won her class and was Reserve Junior Female champion.
The family topped off an impressive haul of titles with the Best Pair of Limousins and the Group of 3 title while the Reserve Male Champion went to Peter Murphy from Mullaghbawn for Carrickaldreen Maverick who is a son of Trueman Jukebox – a bull sold by the Savages in Carlisle for £12,500.
The well known farming family has put years of work into developing the bloodline of their Limousin cattle and are immensely proud of their premium herd – who are all named after rock stars and composers.
Speaking to The Examiner about their success at Balmoral, Henry Savage said,
“It was an unbelievable week for the whole family. To do a clean sweep is something you wouldn’t even dream could happen.
“If Carlsberg did Balmoral shows this would be it!”
