Recruitment drive underway as Killeavy Castle Estate prepares to open

A major recruitment drive is underway for staff to be part of “an exciting new chapter in the journey of Killeavy Castle Estate” as it prepares to open its doors to the public next month.

The much-anticipated 4 star Hotel and Wellness Centre, nestled on the slopes of Slieve Gullion, has been under construction for the last four years, after planning permission was granted to owner Mick Boyle of Jarasmas Investments Ltd in February 2015, to convert the historic castle into a 45 room boutique Hotel and Spa which will also feature a Spa and Wellness Centre.  

The development of the castle is expected to create around 80 jobs in addition to the construction jobs it has already generated during the building phase.  

Killeavy Castle is set in a 330-acre estate and had fallen into a state of disrepair before it was purchased by Jaramas Investment NI Ltd in 2013. The hotel has been built on the site of the castle’s former coach-house, mill and farm buildings, and will incorporate many of their historic features.

Killeavy Castle itself, a Grade A listed building, has been fully restored to include a three-bedroom suite on the first floor, as well as a basement bar.  The ground floor of the castle will connect to a marquee at the rear, providing entertainment space for functions capable of accommodating up to 240 people.

The restored Gate Lodge provides a further three rooms of accommodation.

Mr Boyle, who owns a construction company in Australia, has previously said he wanted to create  “a distinct visitor attraction that maximises the heritage and beauty of the Killeavy Castle Estate and makes a positive contribution to the local community”  and he hopes the new development will become ‘one of Ireland’s must-visit destinations’.

“We are certain it will become the jewel of South Armagh and be a special destination for people from all over the world,” he said.

Applications for Commis Chefs Kitchen Porters, Food and Beverage Assistants, Senior Front Office Receptionist and Night Porters are now open.  Prospective staff are invited to apply for the posts by email with CV and Cover Letter to by this Wednesday, 27 February 2019.
