Triple Accolade for Rian O’Neill at Armagh All-Stars

The Armagh GAA Awards Night at the Carrickdale Hotel turned out to be for Crossmaglen Rangers and Armagh rising star Rian O’Neill.

It was known beforehand that Rian had been selected at midfield on the All-Star team along with fellow Cross team members, his brother Oisin , Paul Hughes, Callum Cumiskey and Cian McConville but during the banquet Rian was selected as Club Player of the Year and two became three when he was announced as County Player of the Year on this his debut championship year at Senior level. Since turning around the 2018 County final when brought to midfield for the second half, Rian’s ability and quality has shown tremendous improvement which has been recognised by his triple triumph at the Armagh All-Stars night. Added to Rian’s memorable night was the bonus that his club Crossmaglen Rangers were named as Club of the Year.

On the playing front South Armagh had 2 more representatives on the All-Star team with St Pat’s Cullyhanna defender Sean Og Irwin selected at corner back and Shane O Neill’s Paul O’Rourke at half forward. O Hanlon’s Poyntzpass referee Jake Magill and Cullovilles Martin Hatzer were respectively chosen as Football Referee of the Year and Underage Referee of the Year. Carrickcruppen won the Scor Club of the Year.

Chairman Michael Savage recognised the 14 years dedication to the County cause of recently retired Charlie Vernon by presenting him with the Chairman’s Award.
