Whitecross Ceili Dancers crowned All-Ireland champions
Armagh was well-represented at Saturday’s national Scór na nÓg final in Belfast, as three clubs competed for All-Ireland titles. Whitecross céilí dance team, Cullyhanna Léiriú act and Silverbridge quiz team who joined the cream of the crop from right across the nation, as Armagh aimed to continue it’s proud record in Scór na nÓg.
The young people of Silverbridge Harps were first up, taking part in the table quiz, they competed against representatives from 27 other counties for the national prize. The standard was high with tough questions in every round. Silverbridge team performed very well but it wasn’t to be on the day.
The young people of St. Patrick’s GFC, Cullyhanna are no strangers to All-Ireland success. They were hoping to retain the national title they won last year in Killarney when they took to the stage at the Waterfront Hall in Béal Feirste this Saturday. Although they performed ‘Auntie B’s toy shop’ brilliantly they narrowly missed out to a club from Roscommon.
The young céilí dancers of St. Killian’s, Whitecross have proudly represented their club and county on many occasions over recent years. Having got to the ultimate stage in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the Whitecross girls hoped to emulate the success of last year’s Silverbridge Scór na nÓg céilí dancing team to retain the All-Ireland title for the Orchard county. And after a superb performance the girls were crowned All-Ireland champions.
Another very proud year for all involved in Armagh Scór na nOg and a very well done to all who competed in the various stages of the competition but sincere congratulations to the three teams in the All-Ireland final and their mentors and many congratulations to the girls from Whitecross who are All-Ireland Champions 2017!
